Noida/New Delhi: Noida recorded a minimum temperature of five degrees Celsius on Saturday, a marginal drop from Friday’s 5.6 degrees. The city was shrouded in a thick fog blanket in the morning, however, clear skies and sunshine brought some respite in the afternoon.
The city also recorded the highest maximum temperature of the month on Saturday. The maximum temperature was 23 degrees Celsius, about a notch above normal, while Friday recorded 20.6 degrees Celsius, the second highest maximum temperature of the season.
In Ghaziabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 8 degrees and maximum at 23 degrees.
Delhi, meanwhile, saw a dip in the minimum temperature to 4.3 degrees Celsius on Saturday. The maximum temperature was 24 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.
Meanwhile, the air quality improved from ‘severe’ to ‘very poor’ due to the winds. Visibility improved as well. While Noida recorded an AQI of 301 against 394 a day before, Ghaziabad’s AQI improved to 324 (very poor) from 375 (poor) on Saturday. Greater Noida too saw a slight improvement as AQI was recorded at 333, up from 371 the day before. All in the ‘very poor’ category.
In Delhi, the AQI at 12pm was 396, and further improved to 357 by 4pm. The average air quality index (AQI), on a scale of 0 to 500, was 337, against 409 a day earlier.
The weather department expects the respite from cold day conditions to continue for the next few days.
At 4 degrees Celsius, Lodhi Road saw the lowest minimum temperature on Saturday. The minimum temperature a day earlier was 4.7 degrees Celsius.
“The wind speed was high so the fog was shallow. The minimum temperature will be around 5 degrees over the next few days, and visibility will improve,” said Kuldeep Srivastava, head, regional weather forecasting centre, India Meteorological Department (IMD).
He added that the temperature may drop by the end of the month.
“A western disturbance is likely to impact the city around January 31. There are chances of light rain, so the temperature may fall slightly on January 31 or February 1,” said Kuldeep Srivastava.
