Kolkata: In a first, the Eastern Railway (ER) on Sunday introduced first-class compartments in the Ranaghat-Sealdah Matribhoomi ladies’ special local train.
These coaches have a plethora of facilities, including cushion-fitted seats and enhanced safety features like a passenger talk-back system and CCTV cameras. Passengers can contact the train’s guard with the help of the talk-back system in case of emergency.The all-encompassing CCTV surveillance system will be monitored by the RPF throughout the journey.
The train was flagged off by Jagannath Sarkar, Ranaghat MP, in the presence of divisional railway manager, Sealdah, Deepak Nigam, and other dignitaries. The dedicated 12-coach rake will have one coach marked as a first class ladies’ coach on either side after the motor coach. Half of the third coaches on either side will be designated for vendors and the other half for lady passengers travelling with second class or ordinary tickets. There are provisions for two mobile charging points and PVC floor mats. The down train will depart Ranaghat at 07.45 am and the up train will leave Sealdahat 5.54 pm.
