OERC Power Tariff Hearing: Public Forums and Power Suppliers to Participate | – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) will conduct a public hearing on aggregate revenue requirement (ARR) and power tariff from Tuesday. Representatives of bulk power suppliers, power generating and distributing companies will take part in the hearing apart from members from public forums.
The hearing will continue till February 6. The distribution companies may request the commission to hike power tariff in order to recover their losses due to transmission and other issues. Whereas members from public forums may keep their arguments against power tariff hike.
Odisha Hydro Power Corporation Limited (OHPC) and Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) will appear for the hearing at 11 am and 3pm on Tuesday respectively in the presence of consumer council members and other participants.
The Commission has given Wednesday a date to bulk supplier Gridco. There are two power suppliers Odisha power transmission corporation limited (OPTCL) and State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC) on February 1.
Power distribution companies like TPNODL and TPCODL will face the Commission on February 2 and February 3 respectively, while TPWODL and TPSODL will attend the hearing on February 5 and February 6 respectively.
On February 7, a state advisory committee meeting of OERC will be conducted here. The Commission will discuss with them about different issues related to ARR and power tariff before passing the judgement. The OERC may pronounce the order on March 23, said an official source.
“Commission will hear all the requests and grievances of companies and consumer council members and then take a decision regarding the power tariff,” said an OERC official here on Monday.
Last year, the OERC did not hike the power tariff. Retail supply tariff has remained unrevised during the last two consecutive years. The Commission had given several concessions to the electricity consumers last year. The OERC had hiked 30 paise per unit for the year 2021-22. It had hiked 20 paise per unit of electricity consumed in the state from October 1, 2020.
Now domestic consumers pay Rs 3 per unit for the first 50 units, Rs 4.80 per unit for consumption above 50 units up to 200 units. If they use electricity between 200 and 400 units, they need to pay Rs 5.80 per unit. Consumers using more than 400 units will pay Rs 6.20 per unit.
