Jaipur: Congress MLA Harish Chaudhary on Monday termed himself as a “proud Shudra” while speaking in the state assembly in response to some leaders of the Rajput community calling themselves the inheritors of Lord Ram during a Shri Kshatriya Yuvak Sangh event in Delhi on Sunday.
“You said you are the inheritors of Lord Ram and are proud of your ancestors. We also say that our forefathers were Shudra, and we are proud of them,” said Chaudhary, who comes from the Jat community in Barmer district. On the issue of OBC reservation, he said there would be a Periyar-like movement in the state if the BJP government diluted the existing quota system.
A former AICC in-charge in Punjab, Chaudhary also said his forefathers struggled a lot in the state and that Congress granted them the rights over their land, which he said was the reason they could reach the state assembly.
Referring to health minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar’s statement in Delhi, Chaudhary said, “Lord Ram may be your ancestor, but he is worshipped by us as well”.
When Khinvsar teased him over Congress leaders’ refusal to attend the Ram temple inauguration ceremony in Ayodhya, Chaudhary said, “I will visit the Ram temple. We do not need your invitation to visit the Ram temple, and I will go whenever I feel like it. You are trying to make Lord Ram yours only, but it will never happen.”
“I am telling you that 50% of the population is getting 21% reservation, which is not sufficient. Do not create a situation of confrontation in the state,” said Chaudhary.
