Bengaluru: Months after conducting a safety audit of the buildings housing its schools and colleges, the BBMP has appointed civil engineers to conduct detailed examinations of 19 buildings identified for demolition.
Officials of the civic agency will hold a meeting with the experts on Feb 2 to decide whether the civic body has to demolish them and construct new buildings.
According to sources, the preliminary audit revealed that 19 BBMP school and college buildings are unsafe. The safety audit was conducted in the backdrop of a nursery building collapsing at Bharathi Nagar on Nov 27, 2023.
As per the report of office of the chief engineer (quality assurance/control), 73 school and college buildings are safe, while 67 need repair or renovation. As many as 19 buildings are unsafe, it said. tnn
