Nagpur: The Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court on Tuesday postponed hearing for the pre-arrest bail plea of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) motor vehicle inspector (MVI) Gita Shejwal, who was booked for attempt to murder, to February 2 after the prosecution filed its submission.
Shejwal’s colleague MVI Sanket Gaikwad was booked concealing and destroying evidence in the firing incident in which the latter was injured at his home in May 2022.
Bajaj Nagar police had registered offences against Shejwal and Gaikwad after a delay of 20 months. Crime branch had questioned Gaikwad for six hours on Monday.
After Shejwal moved the court for interim relief, police opposed the plea and sought time to file their submissions. On Tuesday, the prosecution filed an affidavit citing grounds on which they seek to get the plea vacated enabling them to take Shejwal in custody for questioning.
The investigating team are still to ascertain the motive behind the gun shot and zero in on the perpetrator. Police have claimed Gaikwad and Shejwal had a tiff following which the bullet was fired. The cops had also summoned Gaikwad’s wife for questioning. TNN
