NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has extended the deadline for geotagging properties to February 29. This extension was announced in response to technical glitches faced by iPhone users during the geotagging process. Geotagging involves associating a distinct Latitude-Longitude coordinate with each property on a GIS map. The MCD aims to establish a comprehensive database of property tax records through this initiative.
Delhi residents now have until the end of February to geotag their properties and qualify for a 10% rebate on lumpsum advance tax payment in the subsequent financial year. The initial deadline for geotagging properties was January 31, but due to the challenges faced by iPhone users, an extension was granted.
The AAP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi is leading this initiative to utilize advanced technology in creating a comprehensive property tax database. Delhi mayor Shelly Oberoi highlighted the objective of geotagging 15 lakh properties within two months and offering rebates to compliant property owners.
The recent announcement stated that failure to geotag properties by January 31 would result in taxpayers forfeiting the 10% rebate. However, the MCD assured iPhone users that the technical glitches would be resolved promptly, and the deadline was extended to February 29.
Why geotagging your property is so important
It is essential for property owners to geotag their properties by the revised due date to avoid missing out on the rebate. Geotagging allows each property to be effortlessly traceable in a geographical context, enhancing the delivery of various services to citizens. Non-compliance will result in property owners being unable to avail the rebate on lumpsum tax payment in the subsequent financial year (2024-25). The MCD strongly urges all property owners who have not yet geotagged their properties to do so as soon as possible.
