GUWAHATI: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said the “exceptional” interim Union budget serves the twin aim of establishing Bharat as the world’s fastest-growing economy for a sustained period and lays a strong foundation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lead the nation’s journey in becoming the third largest economy by 2029.
“The March Towards Viksit Bharat Continues! The Interim Budget 2024-2025 sits on the pedestal of outstanding governance over the last 10 years,” Sarma wrote on X.
He said the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has delivered historic accomplishments in the last one decade, transcending the cumulative achievements of the past and “the developmental data presented in today’s budget reflects the nationwide consensus that people will elect Hon’ble Prime Minister for a record third time.”
He highlighted certain announcements in this Budget, which include Rs 75,000 crore interest-free loan to state governments and “will give us greater elbow room to galvanise welfare schemes towards the larger goal of a Viksit Bharat.”
He further stated that the Rs 11 lakh crore capital expenditure proposal mooted in the Budget will bring greater momentum in the creation of growth enabling assets and “the target to support three crore ‘Lakhpati Didis‘ is nothing but revolutionary – which will transform the country’s rural landscape like never before.”
He added that PM’s clarion call of Jai Anusandhan takes a firm shape in the form of a Rs 1 lakh crore corpus for research and innovation. “This shall expand our frontiers of Techade.”
On the reduction of fiscal deficit to 5.1%, which is below market expectations and bringing down borrowings compared to last year “exemplifies the prudent fiscal management by the Hon’ble Finance Minister and her team despite global headwinds,” he stated.
“Last but not the least, by not imposing any additional taxes the Modi Government has once again demonstrated that tax payer welfare remains its top most priority,” he wrote.
