AU asks students to end protest | Allahabad News – Times of India

Prayagraj: Allahabad University administration has urged the students, who are protesting the alleged assault on an MA final year student, to end their agitation and said the VC has assured that no injustice will be done to anybody. “The police administration is mediating in the case and AU is also interested in diffusing the situation but for that the students have to end their protest,” said AU public relation officer Prof Jaya Kapoor.
In a press statement, Kapoor said the VC has taken cognizance of the allegations made by the student against the members of the proctorial board and the chief proctor and the allegations made by the former assistant superintendent against the student and others. In this regard, both the parties will be given an opportunity to present their views and facts.
The protest, which began on Monday, revolves around the alleged assault on an MA final year student of SSL Hostel. The student, Abhishek Gupta, had alleged that he was called to proctor office on Monday and beaten up and sexually harassed in the presence of AU’s chief proctor Rakesh Singh and AU police outpost in charge.
The present crisis was also trending on X, formally known as Twitter. A former student of AU started a campaign in support of the aggrieved student. The campaign, mentioned on X as #RaggingbyProfessorsinAU was trending all day through. Also, a group of members of Samajwadi Chatra Sabha staged a demonstration at Lucknow University over the incident. Protesters burnt the pictures of chief proctor to show their resentment. However, cops chased the troublemakers from the spot. BA student accuses teacher of sexual harassment In another development, an application written by a female student of BA-III went viral on social media in which she has levelled serious allegation of sexual harassment against a teacher of AU. The application was received at the department on January 31. However, varsity authorities have not given any statement on the issue.
