PUNE: NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday criticised BJP over the recent actions of the Enforcement Directorate, including the arrest of former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren and summoning Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
“The BJP govt has crossed all the limits of misuse of power,” Pawar told reporters in the city, stressing that the opposition parties would have to create a public opinion against the misuse of power by the Centre.
“Misuse of power has become the policy of BJP. Be it the case of (Hemant) Soren or the Delhi govt, the Modi govt is setting an example of how power can be misused to rule the country,” he said.
Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the night of January 31.
“Such kind of treatment was given to an Adivasi leader like Soren in the tribal-dominated state of Jharkhand. The case with the Delhi govt is also similar. People talk about Arvind Kejriwal’s good governance in Delhi. Leaders of other states visit Delhi to study his model of governance, but some leaders from his cabinet and in Parliament have been arrested. Some misuse of power was seen in the past, but this govt has crossed all the limits,” Pawar said.
The NCP chief, an important part of the INDIA bloc of opposition parties, termed Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s exit from the alliance “unfortunate”.
“Nitish had organised INDIA bloc’s meeting in Patna. He was quite aggressive in convincing all the present leaders to be united to defeat BJP. But he took the extreme decision of joining NDA. The people of Bihar have not liked his decision and it will be reflected in the upcoming elections,” he said.
Calling Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee‘s decision of distancing herself from the INDIA bloc different from Nitish Kumar’s decision, Pawar said, “Mamata has declared that she will be with the alliance post-election.”
