Nagpur: In the second murder reported in the city within 24 hours, a 45-year-old trader was stabbed to death allegedly by a hardened criminal, identified as Rahul Ramteke, at Sanyal Nagar on Friday for refusing to give money for buying liquor.
Sources said earlier in the day, Ramteke had sought money from the victim, Mangesh Mendhe. Though Mendhe rejected his demand, Ramteke approached him for the second time and confronted him. Ramteke called Mendhe outside the latter’s home before stabbing him, said police.
Relatives rushed an injured Mendhe to Mayo hospital where he was declared dead. After being informed by Mendhe’s wife, cops started searching for Ramteke.
Kapil Nagar police personnel subsequently nabbed accused Ramteke from Teka. An offence of murder was also registered against him.
Mendhe was close to a goon named Bunty Nair and cops from Kapil nagar police station, said sources.
Sources also said Ramteke had alleged Mendhe was earning money through some illegal activities. Mendhe had confronted Ramteke over the allegation.
