PUNE: NCP founder Sharad Pawar on Saturday came down heavily on the Maharashtra govt over the Friday night’s firing in Ulhasnagar involving a BJP MLA.
“Ruling parties have given free hand to those who take law into their hands. The present situation of the state is quite concerning,” he told reporters in the city.
“People were complaining about the depletion of the law and order situation of the country and such incidents prove that they are right. While incidents like firing are taking place in the state, the government has remained a mute spectator. It shows in which direction the state is moving,” Pawar said.
The NCP chief said the seat-sharing formula among the MVA partners was expected to be finalised by February 9-10.
Replying to a question on Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi chief Prakash Ambedkar joining the meeting of MVA, Pawar said, “Some leaders who participated in the meeting briefed me today (Saturday) about the topics of discussion. They are quite positive about the meeting’s outcome. Ambedkar has raised a valid concern that while we are coming together, we must present a common programme before the people of the state. While winning seats is important, it is equally important to present the idea behind the alliance.”
He said, “In order to avoid differences of opinion among the alliance partners later, it is better to discuss and resolve these issues now.”
