Kamakhya Corridor to Boost Northeast Tourism: PM Modi | Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Sunday said Shakti Peeth Kamakhya will become a gateway of tourism to the northeast as he launched the ambitious Rs 498 crore Kamakhya corridor project along with several others, worth over Rs 11,000 crore, in Assam on the second day of his visit to the state.
Laying the foundation stone of Kamakhya corridor, the PM said it was inspired by the Kashi-Vishwanath corridor, which saw about 8.5 crore devotees in the last one year after the completion of the corridor work.
The Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga in Ujjain recorded a footfall of over 5 crore in the last one year. Similarly, more than 24 lakh pilgrims visited the Ayodhya in just 12 days after the consecration of the Ram Lalla idol in the Ram mandir on January 22, he said.
“We are going to witness a similar scene here at the Kamakhya temple after the access corridor is completed. It will ensure ease of access and comfort for the devotees besides drawing more pilgrims.
Assam will become the gateway to tourism in the northeast with an increase in the footfall of devotees for Maa Kamakhya’s darshan,” the PM said, lauding the efforts of the Himanta government in this direction.
