New Andheri flyover already being repaired | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: BMC is carrying out repairs on the newly built Teli Gali flyover at Andheri which links Gokhale Bridge to Western Express Highway. The repairs began after additional municipal commissioner P Velrasu directed that the repairs be done. The BMC chief had announced that Gokhale bridge would be opened on Feb 25.
Work on the Teli Gali flyover was completed last year, but it was not opened to traffic.Citizens had complained of the condition of the new flyover. Activists had pointed out that the cement road surface had cracks and the asphalt surface had gravel stones sticking out, besides a small part of the road being dug out.
Last week, activist Zoru Bhathena wrote to BMC seeking repairs to Teli Galli flyover road surface before Gokhale Bridge is ready. Bhathena said “It is ridiculous that a brand-new flyover has these problems and citizens have to point them out.” In October, citizens and activist Kamlakar Shenoyexpressed concern over undulations on the road surface on the bridge.
Velrasu said “After my visit last week I have given instructions to carry out repairs in some CC panels in the landing area on both sides. There are some cracks and instructions have been issued to the contractor to replace them… Gravel stones jutting out is anti-skid measure and they become normal after some time.”
On Sunday, a group of residents visited Gokhale bridge. Bhathena expressed concern over the pavement width, saying it allows movement of three people on the west but narrows down to one person on the east.
Dhaval Shah, chairman of Lokhandwala Oshiwara Citizens’ Association, said “Work on Teli Galli flyover was not as per BMC standards and the contractor was told to repair defects on the road earlier too. We fear that current repair work will affect smooth traffic movement on Gokhale Bridge as pouring concrete for repairs is a three-week exercise.”
