HYDERABAD: Telangana’s information technology, electronics & communications (ITE&C) department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the 1M1B Foundation (One Million for One Billion) to set up India’s first Green Skills Academy in Hyderabad to accelerate the adoption of green skills among college youth in Telangana.
The programme will be implemented in over 700 colleges in Telangana in partnership with the Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK).The partnership aims to train 1 million youth from the state by 2030 with the top 10 youth to be given an opportunity each year to showcase their work at the annual 1M1B summit at the United Nations in New York.
The 1M1B Green Skills Academy, for college students aged over 18, is designed to equip the future workforce with the skillset, mindset and toolsets needed in a rapidly evolving green economy through a one-year programme, 1M1B said.
“It will offer a blend of theoretical knowledge, projects, workplace experiences, internships and job readiness mentoring to create a dynamic learning environment. It will also empower participants with a range of specialised skills like artificial intelligence, sustainable design, data analysis, and project management,” it added.
“By embedding real-world challenges into the learning process, the programme will nurture critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration abilities, all of which are crucial for success in green and sustainable career paths,” 1M1B said.
The Green Skills Academy will benefit the youth through direct interactions with industry experts, mentors, and sustainability-focused organizations and provide guidance, mentorship, and potential employment opportunities, it added.
1M1B founder & chief mentor Manav Subodh said the Green Skills Academy is expected to be up and running virtually shortly and by June 2024 on the ground with about 100 students to be shortlisted from across the state in the first year, of which 10 will get to participate at the UN summit.
“As 1M1B’s transformative mission unfolds in Telangana, it will empower a million strong youth to become change makers for a sustainable future driven by green sustainability and AI. This initiative will turn youth into green warriors and develop a future-ready green workforce by 2030. The first edition of the Green Skills Academy will also collate inputs and recommendations from diverse stakeholders for the UN Summit of the Future 2024 with focus on AI, cyber safety, climate action and inclusive technologies,” he said.
He said 1M1B engages and enables youth to become future-ready problem solvers creating real-world impact. “By undergoing 1M1B programmes that are based on a unique 4.3.2.1 activation framework, youth acquire critical skill sets, mind-sets, and toolsets to access the jobs of tomorrow. Areas of focus include digital technologies (AI, AR, VR), digital creativity, digital citizenship and 4th industrial revolution skills like problem-solving, flexibility, empathy, dealing with failures and collaboration,” he explained.
The MoU was inked in the presence of Telangana IT & industries principal secretary Jayesh Ranjan and 1M1B director-grassroots Abhiram Natarajan here on Monday.
1M1B is a UN-accredited nonprofit founded in 2014 with a mission to empower youth leaders to impact a billion lives. It holds a unique UN consultative status and is guided by core principles like going beyond yourself, universal empowerment, and the potential of grassroots movements.
