New Delhi: To decongest Nizamuddin Railway Station, the transport department has decided to shift the bus shelter near the complex to around 200 metres away.
A senior official said the decision was taken after the railways had flagged the issue, which was causing traffic jams. “There is also a hutment used to keep records of buses and other clerical work.It will also be shifted,” he added.
This is basically a feeder road to the station, where intra-city buses were leadingto congestion, said the official. “Hence, we have directed buses to take a U-turn before this stretch.”
Prem Shankar Jha, executive adviser to the divisional railway manager, said, “These buses were standing on approach and exit roads in two lanes, causing congestion. We requested the transport department and they agreed to shift it near Barapullah.”
TOI had reported that the station, which was being projected as a future multi-modal transit nerve centre, was grappling with jams and parking problems, causing inconvenience to people.
Sukhvinder Singh, divisional railway manager Delhi, said, “We are thankful to the transport department for agreeing to our demands.”
In a letter to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Northern Railway has said that towards the Sarai Kale Khan side, illegal tehbazari is still blocking footpaths, forcing peopleto walk on the main road, andrequested it to shift them.tnn
