Belagavi: The convention of the beneficiaries of the state govt’s guarantee schemes organised by the Belagavi district administration in cooperation with various government departments at the Sardar High School ground in Belagavi on Monday drew attention as a show of strength of the Congress party.
More than 15,000 beneficiaries from different taluks took part in the event. The actions and words of district minister Satish Jarkiholi, minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, MLAs, MLCs, MPs, and the Congress leaders who praised the guarantee schemes and promised the implementation of new development schemes seemed like a preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking while inaugurating the convention, district minister Satish Jarkiholi said the government has taken steps to financially empower the poor and the middle class people through five guarantee schemes. Despite many hardships, the government is spending 60k crore rupees every year. The money saved through the guarantee schemes should be utilised for better purposes such as their children’s education. The beneficiaries should spread the news about the government’s concern for people, he said.
“Priority will be given to works to develop infrastructure, education and health sectors. Action will be taken for the construction of good roads in the district. The lake-filling project will be implemented. A cancer hospital and super speciality hospital will soon be dedicated for public service,” the minister added.
“The children of those who hand flags to the children of the poor, get higher education abroad. People should be careful about such people,” he cautioned.
Women and child development minister Laxmi Hebbalkar said that those who criticised the implementation of the guarantee schemes are now the beneficiaries of these schemes. All such people should introspect. The Gruha Lakshmi scheme has given a helping hand directly to the poor by giving Rs 24,000 to each beneficiary annually. Rs 212 crore is being given every month under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme in Belagavi district alone,” she said.
“The govt is committed to increasing the honorarium of anganwadi and Asha workers in the coming days. Many more good projects will be implemented by the department,” she assured.
Prakash Hukkeri, special representative of Karnataka govt in New Delhi said that the govt has been successful in delivering the five guarantee schemes of the government to the people. “Not even a single complaint has been received from the general public. The district stands first in scheme implementation,” he added.
MLA Asif (Raju) Saith, Channaraj Hattiholi, DC Nitesh Patil and several beneficiaries expressed their views.
MLAs Vishwas Vaidya, Babasaheb Patil, police commissioner SN Sidramappa, SP Bhima Shankar Guled, ZP CEO Rahul Shinde, probationary IAS officer Shubham Shukla, corporation commissioner Ashok Dudgunti were present.
