Crs Chief Checks Under-river Stretch, Takes Trolley Run Through Cave-in Zone | Kolkata News – Times of India

Kolkata: Chief commissioner of railway safety (CCRS) Janak Kumar Garg on Monday inspected East-West Metro’s under-river section. He also took a trolley run from Esplanade to Sealdah through the Bowbazar cave-in zone. This is likely to be the final safety inspection for East-West Metro’s truncated Esplanade-Howrah Maidan operations.
On Monday, the CCRS also took a trolley run from Esplanade through the subsidence zone. He stopped just before Sealdah Metro station and returned to Esplanade, on the same trolley. Monday’s inspection and the CCRS’ approval will pave the way for launching India’s first under-river Metro. The CRS under the ministry of civil aviation gives the mandatory safety nod for any new Metro line in India.
Garg started his inspection in the morning with trolley runs in the Esplanade-Howrah Maidan segment. He took a close look at the 520m twin river tunnels, tracks, tunnel ventilation system and lighting system inside the tunnels. At Esplanade station, he inspected the entry and exit gates, passenger interchanging point with the North-South line, station system map, lifts, escalators, signages and other passenger amenities.
V K Srivastava, principal chief engineer and AGM Metro Railway and MD, KMRC, also accompanied him.
