Bollywood’s fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani recently opened up about not lending his costumes to stylists so celebrities can sport them at airports. He also lauded Alia Bhatt for promoting sustainable fashion.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Tarun emphasized the practicality of wearing outfits multiple times, suggesting that they improve with age.He observed a trend among brides to mimic Bollywood actors’ choices, urging simplicity instead. Tahiliani advised against excessive makeup changes for wedding events and cautioned against the discomfort of heavy lehengas.

Tarun also praised actor Alia Bhatt for her promotion of sustainable fashion. He commended her decision to wear her wedding saree again for the National Awards ceremony last year, where she received the Best Actress award for her role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s 2022 hit period drama, Gangubai Kathiawadi.

The ace fashion designer also went on to talk about Bollywood celebrities’ fashionable airport looks. He criticized actors and stylists for excessively opting for expensive imported brands even for their airport attire, which he believes sets unrealistic standards for their followers on social media platforms like Instagram.

Tarun disclosed receiving numerous requests from celebrities seeking to borrow his outfits for publicity through their ‘airport looks.’ He criticized Bollywood for homogenizing personal styles, noting the trend of individuals emulating actors’ airport attire. Tarun stressed that authentic style involves embracing one’s unique voice rather than blindly following trends set by celebrities. He also highlighted the pressure intensified by social media to avoid repeating outfits.
