Ludhiana: A 12-year-old boy was killed and his 22-year-old friend was left fighting for his life as the motorcycle they were riding was hit by an unidentified vehicle on Sunday night.
Police said Kuldeep Singh was riding the motorcycle on the wrong side of the road, while deceased Ashu was riding pillion, when they met with the accident. Police cited driving on the wrong side of the road as the reason behind the accident, even as they are yet to trace the other vehicle involved in the case. The accident took place near Ramgarh area of Chandigarh Road.
ASI Varinderjit, in-charge of Ramgarh police post, said the duo had gone to a dhaba to have dinner on Sunday night. After having dinner, they were supposed to return home, but they went for a joyride and started driving it on the wrong side of the highway when they met with the accident. Driving on the wrong side is common in the city and motorists are often seen flouting the traffic rule.
While Kuldeep died on the spot, passerby took Ashu to Ludhiana civil hospital. The ASI added that as Ashu is in a critical condition, doctors had referred him to PGIMER, Chandigarh. The families of the victims are yet to record their statements with police, said the police official. “We will register an FIR after talking to them,” he added.
