Ludhiana: The Elephant Man of Asia and the first veterinarian in India to receive Padma Shri Award, KK Sarma, visited the department of veterinary surgery and radiology (VSR), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, to deliver lectures and give demonstrations on use of dart gun to the veterinary surgery faculty from across India, along with the PG and PhD students of the department .
Sarma is an internationally renowned wildlife expert and has expertise in taming the “Mast” male elephants which go rogue during breeding season. He has an expertise in translocating Rhinos. He holds the world record of taming 143 Mast elephants.
He demonstrated how to use a dart gun, and shared the do’s and don’ts of darting. In another session, he elaborated upon the do’s and don’ts of handling wildlife, and risks involved in dealing with it. tnn
