Vishal Bhardwaj showers praise on Vikrant Massey starrer ’12th Fail’; calls Vidhu Vinod Chopra a ‘pure filmmaker’ | – Times of India

Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj praised Vikrant Massey’s ‘12th Fail,’ directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. He said that the wide acceptance of this movie is like a silver lining for independent films, while makers are struggling to understand what will work in theaters and more.
As per the news agency PTI, Vishal also said that independent cinema has progressed and ‘is now regressing’. He also mentioned that filmmakers are now exploring whether a film like ‘Animal’, ‘Jawan’, ‘Pathaan’, or a ‘mindless South Indian action film’ will work.
During a press conference at Jaipur Literature Festival 2024, Vishal emphasized that independent cinema has been witnessing great progression for the past few years. Particularly, it has now started to regress too. All filmmakers are exploring the possibilities of it and what will work for people in theaters. He added that ‘Haider’, ‘Maqbool’, and ‘Omkara’ had commercial stars to make them work, but movies like ‘Dev D’ and ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oy’ used to get money easily. Vishal stated how difficult it is to raise money for these kinds of films as makers are scared and worried about the acceptance.

’12th Fail’: Vikrant Massey, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and other actors celebrate film’s success with IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma

Vishal called the success of ‘12th Fail’ a ‘silver lining’. It has no star, no weirdness, and the background score was also beautiful. He called it a pure filmmaking of Vidhu Vinod Chopra and his best film. People should get to feel that the movie is worth watching in theaters. Everyone is exploring whether a film like ‘Animal’, ‘Jawan’, or ‘Pathaan’ or a mindless South Indian action film will work. These all can be marked as an imbalance game.
‘12th Fail’ is about the life of Manoj Kumar Sharma IPS and his wife Shraddha Joshi, an IRS officer. Medha Shankar played Shraddha while Vikrant played Manoj Kumar.
