Kanpur: An eight-year-old girl of Chakeri area here was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man, who runs an automobile service centre outside the survivor’s house for the past few years. The girl’s father had rented out the shop to the accused.
However, a case has been lodged against the man, Mukesh Gupta, at Chakeri police station based on the complaint of the girl’s father on Monday.
The complainant alleged that on January 28, when the minor girl was alone in the house, the accused entered the house and sexually assaulted her. He also had threatened the girl not to tell anyone about the same. Therefore, the girl did not reveal anything to her parents. They came to know about it on February 1
According to the complainant, the police outpost in-charge initially refused to file the complaint. After few days, the girl’s father met Deputy Commissioner of Police SK Singh, who then instructed the local police to immediately lodge a complaint. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dilip Kumar Singh said an FIR under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and POCSO Act has been registered against the accused and investigation is underway. “Meanwhile, the girl was sent for medical examination. Separate police teams have been formed to raid possible hideouts of the accused, who is absconding,” the ACP added.
