Fake Recovery Agents Stop Student, Flee With Scooter | Bengaluru News – Times of India

Bengaluru: Two miscreants posing as recovery agents of a finance firm stole a scooter from a 19-year-old student by falsely claiming that there was a loan against the scooter.
Shreyash G, 19, a resident of D’Souza Nagar in Banashankari III Stage and BCom student of a private college, told police he was on his way to bring tender coconuts for his sick mother on Saturday evening. He was riding his maternal uncle’s Honda Dio scooter (registration number KA-04-HQ-0055) and was stopped near Kerekodi bus stop at 6.30pm by two men, astride a two-wheeler and aged between 24-26 years.
They introduced themselves as recovery agents. They told him that the scooter was purchased by taking a loan from their company and the owner of the vehicle was due to pay the EMI.
Shreyash told the duo that the vehicle belonged to his uncle and he had brought it to buy tender coconuts. The duo took the scooter key from him and asked him to show the vehicle documents. Shreyash told them the documents were at home. The duo asked Shreyash to meet them near Hosakerehalli 43A bus stop and rode away on the scooter.
Shreyash assumed that his uncle had brought the scooter by taking loan and returned home. He told his father Gaviraj about the incident. Gaviraj called his brother-in-law Ramesh to check if there was a loan against the vehicle. Ramesh told him that he had brought the scooter by paying cash and he hadn’t taken loan from any finance firm.
Gaviraj and Shreyash rushed to 43A bus stop and didn’t find the miscreants. “I realised they have cheated my son by cooking up a story, so there was no point in searching for them. We went to Girinagar police station and lodged a complaint,” Gaviraj, a businessman, told TOI. “We were using Ramesh’s vehicle for more than a year,” he added.
A police officer said the miscreants spoke to Shreyash in Kannada. Shreyash failed to note down the registration number of their vehicle. “We verified CCTV footage and are making efforts to nab the duo,” he added. A case has been registered under IPC sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 379 (theft).
