Judge Tells Sit To Submit Final Probe Report In Hc First | Kolkata News – Times of India

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday asked the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is probing the death Faizan Ahmed, a third-year engineering student at IIT-Kharagpur, not to submit its final probe report without its permission. The HC, which will take up the hearing on March 18, refused to interfere with the ongoing probe, saying any judicial interference could harm the probe. The SIT on Tuesday told the HC that it intends to complete the probe by March.
On Oct 14 last year, Faizan was found in his hostel room. A SIT is probing the case after the second autopsy referred to it as a murder. The case is sub-judice at the Calcutta High Court.
Justice Jay Sengupta asked the SIT not to submit the final probe report before the HC’s leave after the lawyers representing Faizan’s parents — Salim and Rehana — told the HC that even the SIT probe was leaning towards a suicide. Lawyer Niladri Sekhar Ghosh said: “We suspect that SIT is nudging this probe towards a suicide.” Lawyer Ranjit Chatterjee said: “We are also worried that the IIT students implicated in this case may leave the institute soon (after completing studies). What will happen to the probe then?” Justice Sengupta said: “No final report can be submitted without the court’s leave. The court (HC) will consider the probe-related findings first.”
Earlier, the SIT had submitted the DNA report in the HC, but the judge dubbed it at “inconclusive”. The state said that the blood stains found at the hostel room were AB negative while Faizan’s was ‘O’ positive. The samples were insufficient according to the CFSL. The state also said Faizan’s phone that was sent for lab tests will be available only in March. The HC has also asked for the second post-mortem report.
