Prayagraj: The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed a ban on the sale of meat or fish within 500m radius of the Magh Mela area. Along with this, the Bharti Bhawan library at Chowk area will be renovated through the funds of Smart City Mission.
These and other important proposals were taken up in the municipal corporation executive committee meeting held recently.
In the meeting chaired by mayor Umesh Chandra Ganesh Kesarwani, the revised budget of the municipal corporation was also presented. The budget of the municipal corporation for 2023-24 was Rs 1200 crore, whereas for 2024-25 it has been increased to over Rs 1439 crore. The budget of jal kal department (water) was increased by Rs 60.82 crore. A budget of Rs 100 crore has been proposed for works related to Maha Kumbh which will be done by Prayagraj Mela Authority.
In this, Rs 15 lakh each will be given to old wards and Rs 50 lakh to wards of expanded areas.
It was also proposed that the city be made garbage-free in the next six months. For this, a cleanliness campaign and door-to-door rangoli competition will be conducted.
Other important proposals included renaming the livestock department to animal welfare department. Also, the smaller streets will be developed with the budget of Maha Kumbh.
Govt grant for Maha Kumbh-2025 was increased from Rs 150 crore to Rs 300 crore.
Also, a proposal to rename Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park as Prerna Park was mooted. It was resolved that a 12ft high statue of Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay will be replaced at Balson crossing. Along with this, the statues of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and former international president of VHP Ashok Singhal will also be installed.
It was also proposed that a statute of Sardar Patel be installed at Sardar Patel Marg in Civil Lines.
