MCG wants Ecogreen contract terminated – Latest News | Gurgaon News – Times of India

Gurgaon: MCG has written to the urban local bodies (ULB) department to consider the termination of its contract with solid waste management concessionaire Ecogreen. It has also sought an order of termination.
In its letter to ULB commissioner and secretary Vikas Gupta, the civic body said no improvement has been made by the concessionaire after it was issued a preliminary termination notice on Dec 4 last year.
MCG stated the situation instead became worse after the firm was served the notice.
MCG also wrote to Ecogreen on Tuesday asking it to submit a reply on the improvements made as per their rectification plan with photos and evidence within 48 hours.
The civic body has also asked the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) to submit feedback on whether Ecogreen has made any improvement in waste management in the city.
“We have asked Ecogreen to explain what they have done as per the rectification plan. We have now written to the state govt informing them that the concessionaire has failed in performing its duties and recommended that its contract be terminated. The final decision will be taken as per the directions of the govt,” MCG commissioner Narhari Singh Banger told TOI.
“The rectification plan was not found to be acceptable by MCG and the issue of termination notice is being contemplated. As per provision made in clause No.12.4 (a) the concessionaire shall have a further period of 30 days to remedy/cure the underlying event of default. If the concessionaire fails to remedy/cure the underlying event of default within such a period of 30 days, designated ULB shall be entitled to terminate the agreement by issue of termination notice. MCG has observed that no improvement has been made by the concessionaire; rather, the situation has become worse. Accordingly, a termination notice has been drafted which is being sent for your kind consideration,” read the letter recently sent by the MCG commissioner to Gupta.
The concessionaire, in its rectification plan, had submitted that 150 out of 370 waste collection vehicles of Ecogreen will be replaced with new vehicles and they will purchase an additional 150 vehicles for door-to-door waste collection.
For this, Ecogreen had said it would spend Rs 22.7 crore. The concessionaire planned to establish a transfer station along the Dwarka Expressway, provided MCG provides the designated land to them.
In its rectification plan, the concessionaire had also proposed to set up a material recovery facility with the capacity to process 300 tonnes per day.
“We are going to submit a reply on what improvements we have carried out as per the rectification plan. We have time till Thursday to submit the reply,” said an Ecogreen representative.
