Naveen Slams State Bjp, Says It’s Busy Politicising Crimes | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik here on Wednesday blasted the opposition saying it was busy tarnishing the state’s image by politicising crimes.
Participating in the motion of thanks on the governor’s address in the assembly, Naveen listed the govt’s achievements and said, “When all these achievements were happening, I am sorry to say the opposition was busy politicising every crime and trying to defame the state and its people.”
Referring to a court verdict in the murder of a five-year-old girl on Tuesday, Naveen said, “I would like to remind the members of the opposition about the kind of obstruction they did in this House and tried to politicise this sensitive case.”
“Now that the accused is convicted, where will the opposition, especially the state BJP, who tried to politicise this issue at the cost of stalling justice go,” he asked. While Naveen spoke about the Nayagarh case in his speech, BJD members earlier created ruckus seeking an apology from BJP leaders for politicising the crime.
BJP and Congress had stalled assembly proceedings in 2020 alleging involvement of a BJD MLA in the crime. After the court verdict, BJP leader Mohan Majhi has sought a CBI probe into the incident.
Naveen said people won’t forgive those who defame their own state for narrow political interests and won’t forgive those who tried to stop Shree Mandir and Lingaraj projects. Delving on his govt’s focus on revamp of shrines, Naveen said, “I believe in honouring people’s faith and that is the motivation behind taking up renovation and restoration of religious institutions.”
BJD MLA Snehangini Chhuria said the court verdict has proved that BJP’s allegations of political involvement in the case were baseless. “We demand Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP MLA Mohan Majhi and MP Suresh Pujari to apologise for their attempts to politicise the crime,” she said.
