Salem: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said they parted ways with BJP “to protect” rights of Tamil Nadu and that “to bring funds and projects to TN, we are going to extend issue-based support to those (governing) at the Centre”. EPS said AIADMK would stitch together its own alliance in the state and face the election. “All are raising doubts about the AIADMK alliance.Wait and see, there will be a wonderful alliance,” he said.
“It was the people of Tamil Nadu who elected us. But when we raised issues pertaining to Tamil Nadu, they were not heard. Hence, we parted ways. We split (from BJP alliance) to protect our rights. We want to serve the people who voted for us,” EPS said, addressing AIADMK IT wing functionaries in Namakkal on Thursday.
“When we align with national parties, the needs of our state get neglected as national parties have a pan-India focus. Ultimately, we are affected,” he said. “Hence, to protect the rights of TN people, to bring funds and projects to TN, we are going to extend issue-based support to those (governing) at the Centre,” EPS said.
Palaniswami’s statement comes a day after Union home minister Amit Shah said “all options are open” for alliance with parties in TN. AIADMK leaders, including D Jayakumar, had reacted to the statement immediately, rejecting a patch-up with BJP. EPS, however, reacted only on Thursday.
He then hit out at DMK and chief minister M K Stalin for dynastic politics and alleged that his visit to Spain to bring investments was a farce. “Stalin signed MoUs with companies already functioning in Tamil Nadu. He went to Spain not to attract foreign investments, but to make investments,” he alleged and demanded a white paper on the investments brought so far.
EPS said Edibon, one of the companies that signed MoU to invest 540 crore, was already functioning in Chennai and Trichy. Hapag-Lloyd which inked MoU to invest 2,500 crore, was functioning in Tuticorin. Similarly, Roca, which expressed its interest to invest 400 crore, has its unit in Perundurai in Erode.
“Stalin should explain why he went to Spain to sign MoUs when those companies were already functioning in Tamil Nadu,” EPS said.
