GBU to get 100cr for AI centre and infra development Noida | Gautam Buddha University | Noida News – Times of India

NOIDA: Gautam Buddha University will receive a one-time grant of Rs 100 crore from the state govt as mentioned under the recent UP budget. The vice chancellor of the university said Rs 50 crore will be assigned to develop a new artificial intelligence-based Centre of Excellence, while the remaining amount will be used for infrastructural development on the university campus.
“This is the first time that the state has directly funded the university,” said Ravindra Kamar Sinha, VC of GBU.
The centre will be solely used for research and development in AI, where the university will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with companies and industry partners. Moreover, courses at bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD levels will also be curated such that they include AI and machine learning (ML) in the forthcoming years.
The VC said that the planning of the centre is yet to take place, also adding that they are in the process of signing more MoUs. “So far, we have collaborated with IBM, Microsoft, among others. Foreign universities will also be invited for student and faculty exchange programmes at the centre. Currently, we are in talks with one university in Switzerland and one in the USA. This would bring more internship opportunities for students,” said Sinha.
The Rs 50-crore budget set for infrastructural development will be utilised to make improvements in the existing laboratories, machines, and other curricula, including science, sports, art, and music. “In GBU, we have enough space, however, it needs to be utilised properly with ICT laboratories, and other infra. Permanent faculty strength will also be increased from next year,” added Sinha.
