Lucknow: Govt did not spend more than 20% of its budget in 2023-24 as well as in 2022-2023, said Samajwadi Party MLC Lal Bihari Yadav in the Legislative Council on Thursday.
The energy department had spent about 59.8% of the 2023-24 budget, while PWD had spent around 26.8%, Yadav said, adding that there were several departments which spent even less than 50% of their budget.
The SP MLC said he welcomed the construction of Ram temple, but condemned that President Droupadi Murmu was not invited for the consecration ceremony. “It also hurts that she was not invited for the inauguration of the Parliament building,” he added. Yadav said that he is grateful that Ram temple has been constructed in Ayodhya on the order of the SC. “But it has not been done by any party,” he said. The SP MLC said that Global Investors Summit has everything at the ‘proposal’ stage and nothing at the ground level.

The government authorities defended the low borrowing, stating that revenue flow through tax collection has been good, and there is no urgent need to borrow more. Using borrowed money sparingly can save the government from higher interest payments.
