Kanpur: The Sports Hub will identify 400 sports persons of under-18 age group of which 230 talented sports persons will be selected for the Sports Promotion Scholarship/subsidy to outstanding Economically weak sports persons for next season, said additional municipal commissioner Kanpur Jagdish Yadav who is also a member of the evaluation committee.
Talking to reporters on Thursday, Yadav said that the current evaluation committee, comprising of president UP TT Association Sanjeev Pathak, secretary UP Athletic Association Devesh Dubey, CA Harsh Agarwal and managing director Rajeev Garg, will examine the aspirants status on the parameters of financial status, education level, domicile and sports skills. The aspirants would be picked for badminton, basketball, boxing, judo, kabaddi, karate, shooting, swimming , table tennis, taekwondo and wrestling sports.
Rajeev Garg said that the selection process would be completely transparent, however the players who had represented district, state and nation in sports events would be given priority. He added that TSH coaches collect the names of talented students under the given parameters from the schools of municipal corporation.
Director operation PK Srivastava said that physically challenged candidates would also be included for scholarship selection. The coming batch would be the fourth batch. In the last three batches, the TSH has trained 730 sports persons who have won 84 medals in the selected disciplines.
He informed that application forms will be available at Kanpur Municipal Corporation office, Kanpur Smart City Ltd and TSH from Feb 12 and last date for submission is Feb 17. The application form must be supported along with income details of the family, domicile certificate, highest educational qualification and sports proficiency certificates.
TSH will host two star squash tournaments in March, he added.
