PUNE: A jewellery shop owner who ran his business on rented premises shot his landlord while they were on a bike, before shooting himself dead with the same licensed pistol in an autorickshaw on Saturday evening.
Additional commissioner of police Manoj Patil told TOI, “Jewellery shopowner Anil Dhamale (40) of Balewadi shot his landlord, Akshay Jadhav (40) of Baner, from a close range in Baner around 5.45pm. Later, around 6pm, he shot himself dead in an autorickshaw in Aundh.” The deceased owed money and had financial disputes with his landlord.
Cops found Dhamale motionless in the autorickshaw and took him to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
Patil said that Dhamale had called Jadhav to discuss financial matters. Jadhav reached the spot in Baner on his motorcycle, Dhamale sat pillion and the duo headed out to have tea. While the motorcycle was in motion, the jewellery shop owner shot his landlord in the head from behind. They fell on the road with the vehicle.
“Dhamale left the spot, hired an autorickshaw and told the driver to head to Chatushrungi police station. When the auto reached a spot in Aundh, Dhamale shot himself in the head at point blank range,” Patil said. The autorickshaw driver halted the vehicle and called the police.
Meanwhile, Jadhav was admitted to a private hospital in Baner and was reportedly critical, said senior inspector Balaji Pandhare of Chatushrungi police.
Pandhare said that according to a preliminary probe, Dhamale and Jadhav knew each other for the last few years. Jadhav owned the shop in Balewadi and had rented it to Dhamale.
