Gurgaon: MCG has set April 1 as the deadline for repairing and desilting stormwater drains, sewage lines and surface drains and making arrangements for the machinery required to prevent waterlogging. The directions were given by additional commissioner Balpreet Singh in a meeting held on Friday.
The executive engineers have been asked to submit the current status of all the drains in their jurisdiction by Feb 12.
“All arrangements should be made before April 1 to prevent waterlogging and flooding this monsoon. The drains should be repaired, cleaned and the tender process to procure machinery should be now initiated so that the work orders are allocated before April 1. A review meeting of the monsoon preparedness will again be held on Feb 15,” said the additional commissioner in the meeting.
MCG has already floated tenders to procure super sucker machines to clean sewer lines in the areas falling under ward 29 and the project is estimated to cost Rs 24 lakh. The civic body has also floated a tender for desilting of sewage lines in Sector 56 for an estimated cost of Rs 23.7 lakh. Officials said that the committees will be constituted to ensure desilting of drains before monsoon. The civic body had constituted eight teams to monitor and desilt stormwater drains across the city in 2023.
Last year, the clogged stormwater drains and sewage lines had led to waterlogging in several areas during monsoon. Construction waste also leads to waterlogging as it flows into drains and creates blockage. The residents also raised concerns that even if MCG cleans the drains before monsoon and does not lift construction waste, it is still going to cause waterlogging.
