Jaipur: Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Saturday claimed that the names of candidates for all 25 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan were discussed at the party screening committee meeting held in Delhi on Friday.
Speaking to the media in Tonk, Pilot said the party leadership will announce the candidates soon. In some constituencies there is only one name, in some other seats there are two names and, in others, there is a panel of three names. But the final decision on the ticket will be taken by the Central Election Committee (CEC). And indications are that a CEC meeting will be held soon, he claimed.
Pilot who has been demanding more opportunities to the youngsters said, “Our effort is that the party gives more opportunities to the youth. The public welcome that decision. In the Assembly elections, where new experiments were done and opportunity was given to the youth, the public accepted them in most of the places,” he said.
He claimed that Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge are also in favour of giving more opportunities to the youth.
“I have requested the party to give the opportunity to new people and people with clean image and announce the candidates in advance so that they get adequate time for campaigning,” said Pilot who is also party in-charge of Chhattisgarh.
Replying to a range of issues, he said the party welcomes Bharat Ratna to agriculture scientist M S Swaminathan but asked what happened to the Swaminathan committee report to address farm redress. He said Modi government could not implement the Swaminathan committee report in the last ten years. He said the central government had promised a law to ensure minimum support price (MSP) for farm produce but could not fulfil it and the farmers have again threatened an agitation.
He said the Modi government had promised two crore jobs to the youth every year but unemployment is the highest now in the country now and youth are struggling to find jobs.He alleged that the uniform civil code, CAA, Mandir, and Masjid are tactics by the Modi government to divert attention for the real issues concerning the people.
He said the state governments were forced to stage dharna in Delhi to seek their share of money from the centre. Modi’s claim of co-operative federalism but at the same time stops money to opposition rules states, he said.
The Congress leader further said that the BJP is still talking about UPA government but shying away form telling what they did in the last ten years, said the Congress leader.
