Kanpur: Prince Raj Yadav of Ayodhya and Ranjana Rajput of Etah won the men and women half marathon race held under the Bithoor Mahotsav here on Saturday. Prince covered the distance of 21.0975 km in 1:09;43 hrs while Ranjana clocked 1:22:38 hrs time to cover the same distance. Both won a cash prize of Rs 21,000 each. Vineet Rathi of Bulandshahar and Nisha of Bhadohi stood as runners up and were richer by Rs 11,000 each.Vineet at the finish line recorded 1:10:56 hrs time while Nisha clocked 1:25:00 hrs.
Saurabh Tiwari of Hardoi and Yashi Sachan got the third place in men & women sections and they collected cash prize of Rs 5000 each. The winners and runner-up in the men’s section led the field of around 225 runners after two kms. They managed to maintain a big lead from others. However, they were together till 15 kms. Prince, at this stage, started using his reserve and taking lead a little, and finished the race with a difference of around 500 metres. Saurabh, who was trailing around a km behind Vineet finished third.
Later talking to TOI, Vineet, a graduation student, stated that it was a good experience and his success encouraged him to put more efforts and participate in more races. On the other hand, Ranjana stated that she was in second year of her graduation course in Etah and it was her first big event. In the beginning she had some doubt but the same evaporated as soon as she crossed around 2 km distance.In the morning, Sudhir Ku mar, chief development officer, flagged off the race in which around 25 girls were included. ADM city and secretary UPAA gave away cash prizes to the winners.. TNN

Theni marathon organisers booked for cheating runners
The Theni district police have booked the organisers of a marathon for cheating people of up to `30 lakh. Protests broke out during the event due to poor arrangements and fewer prizes than announced. Police are on the lookout for the accused who are absconding.
