Gurgaon: MCG is planning to hire an agency to provide technical and administrative support to improve sanitation services in the city. The agency will prepare a plan for door-to-door waste collection, four-level segregation of waste, transportation, and waste processing. The agency will monitor the work of several sanitation agencies on the ground and report gaps to the MCG commissioner.
For the project, estimated at Rs 1.8 crore, the agency will evaluate the quantity and characterisation of municipal solid waste and prepare a detailed transportation plan from the primary and secondary collection points to the waste processing or landfill site.
Officials said that the agency will supervise MCG to improve all the parameters of sanitation so that the city’s Swachh Survekshan rankings also improve. The agency will provide solid waste management experts, information, communication, and technology (ICT) experts, social media management experts, communication, sanitation experts, and zone in-charge.
MCG wants to replicate the technical and administrative support agency like India’s cleanest city, Indore. The agency will also design campaigns to create awareness among the residents about activities such as source segregation, composting, and managing their waste for bulk waste generators. Officials said that despite having manpower, machinery, and funds, MCG has not been able to achieve the desired results in sanitation, thus, the agency will ensure implementation of result-driven initiatives.
“The agency will assist us in improving sanitation services, identifying problem areas, and creating a mechanism to solve them. They will also provide manpower and experts, and cover Swachh Survekshan parameters,” said Naresh Kumar, MCG joint commissioner for Swachh Bharat Mission.
The agency will also plan to utilise construction and plastic waste and effective disposal of horticulture waste. It will also facilitate periodic studies to identify the gaps and plug them to improve the overall system.
