Kolkata: The cyber cell, which had earlier busted an organized WFH fraud gang from Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh after the accused made the victims to join various Telegram app groups with the purpose of investments, has now found links that suggest money has been parked in the UAE, Thailand and China.
Police have claimed before court that the accused, Subeer Kumar Dash (30), who claims to hail from Agartala, might also be involved in SIM cloning.Dash’s bail petition was dismissed by the court after cops opposed it. They will soon move court for a second round of questioning in jail after his police custody gets over.
A resident of the Watgunge area had recently complained to Port police that a few people included him in a Telegram group and persuaded him to invest in cryptocurrency for high returns. In the process, he ended up losing nearly Rs 69 lakh, the money being transferred through UPI IDs and multiple crypto-wallets.
“During investigation, sleuths found out that Rs 4.1 lakh was transferred through UPI IDs and parked in the linked bank accounts, while the rest was routed through as many as four crypto-wallets registered with two top crypto exchange firms. A few end beneficiaries of these wallets were even traced to China,” said an officer. Multiple mobile numbers linked to the beneficiaries were traced to the UAE and Thailand.
