Controversy over Tamil Nadu governor RN Ravi’s actions in assembly | Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu law minister S Regupathy on Monday said if governor R N Ravi was not satisfied with the governor’s address, he could have boycotted the session.
Speaking to reporters outside the assembly, Regupathy said, “The governor’s address was approved by the governor himself. If there had been any clarifications, we would have clarified him.If he had any contradictions, he could have boycotted his address. But he did not read his address with the intention to shame the state government. Though he may try to shame us, the people will not allow us to be shamed.”
Comparing Ravi with his Kerala counterpart Arif Mohammed Khan, Regupathy said, “At least the Kerala governor read the last para of the address but Ravi did not read even a single word from the governor’s address.”
Regupathy said the entire country was watching the actions of the governor and people of north India too understood the intention of the governor. “This will strengthen the INDIA bloc,” Regupathy said.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami criticised the governor’s address by saying that there was nothing new in the address.
Asked about the governor walking out of the assembly, EPS said it was the problem between the state government and the governor and there were no such issues when he was the CM.
Former AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam said the governor’s address should explain the objectives and principles of the ruling government but no such explanations were found. It might be the reason for the governor expressing contradictions in his address and ultimately walking out.
Calling the walkout of governor as a “drama,” Congress floor leader K Selvaperunthagai opined that like Telangana, the TN government too should skip governor’s address.
BJP floor leader Nainar Nagendran justified the governor walking out of the assembly by saying that the inappropriate usage of words by the speaker triggered the governor to walk out of the assembly.
VCK floor leader Sithanai Selvan said by asking the Tamil Nadu government to play the national anthem twice, the governor was trying to portray that Tamils were not patriotic.
CPI floor leader Thalli Ramachandran demanded that President Droupadi Murmu call back the governor.
Manithaneya Makkal Katchi leader M H Jawahirullah said usually the opposition party MLAs walked out of the assembly but now the governor was acting like an opposition party MLA and walked out of the assembly. “Ravi has degraded the office of the governor,” Jawahirullah said.
PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss objected to the governor walking out of the assembly. “Governor’s address was already approved by the governor himself. Also, the Tamil Nadu assembly office has intimated the governor’s office that it is not the custom to play the national anthem before the commencement of governor’s address. Even after these, the governor walking out of the assembly cannot be acceptable,” Anbumani said.
Condemning the governor for walking out, MDMK leader Vaiko said the governor acting against the democratically elected state government was not acceptable.
