Kendrapada: Forest officials seized 72 Alexandrine parakeet chicks on Jagatsinghpur-Paradip Road under Jagatsinghpur forest range on Sunday and arrested two men. “We arrested Barada Prasana Sahoo (42) and Sankar Singh (29) of Singharapur village. The parakeets will be released,” said Rabinarayan Mohanty, range officer of Jagatsinghpur. The two were booked under provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
“Investigation is on to ascertain whether the men are smugglers or poachers. We suspect there is a chain of smugglers involved in this trade,” Mohanty said.

Leopard carcass found in Gularbhoj under Terai forests
An eight-year-old leopard was found dead in Gularbhoj town of Udham Singh Nagar districts. The carcass was discovered in a field under the Peepal Parao range of Terai forests, near Haripura reservoir. Preliminary assessment suggests a possible territorial dispute or snaring by poachers. A comprehensive post-mortem examination will be conducted. The leopard’s body parts were intact.

120kg ganja seized; two arrested

Leopard involved in road accident rescued by Wildlife SOS
A male leopard involved in a road accident on the Pune-Nashik highway was rescued by Wildlife SOS in Kalamb, Manchar forest range. The injured leopard is receiving medical treatment including supportive therapy and oral medications under the care of Dr Chandan Sawane.
