Kanpur: A five-year-old child died in revelry firing in Mataundh police station area of Banda district on Saturday.
According to the reports, the incident occurred during the ‘tilak’ ceremony of one Lokendra Singh, son of Surendra Singh, resident of Mataundh.
A boy named Shambhu Shukla, son of Bhura Shukla, resident of Mataundh town, was shot after some revellers indulged in indiscriminate firing.
The family members immediately took the child to the district hospital, from where he was referred to the Rani Durgawati medical college. Seeing his critical condition, the doctors after giving first aid referred him to Kanpur. He however died on the way.
ASP Laxmi Niwas Mishra said that after getting the information, a police team along with forensic experts rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary investigation. Prima facie, the name of Pratyush Shukla, son of late Motilal Shukla has surfaced. “Eyewitnesses informed that he had opened fire from a country-made pistol causing grievous wounds in the neck of the boy identified as Shambhu. The incident is being investigated. Further action will be taken on the basis of a complaint, evidence and other necessary findings. Several teams have been formed and dispatched to the possible hideouts of the suspect,” he said and added, ““nstructions have been given to in-charge of all police stations to ensure that such incidents do not happen in future.”
