Gang involved in Weighbridge Scam Busted in Lucknow | Lucknow News – Times of India

Lucknow: A team of the UP Special Task Force (STF) apprehended seven miscreants on Sunday night for allegedly swindling crores of rupees by manipulating weighbridges with the help of remote devices.
The gang, which primarily targeted construction companies and contractors in the Purvanchal region, used to tamper with weighbridges, making huge money in the process.The arrested miscreants have been identified as Ankit Kumar Yadav, Dinesh Pandey, Rajvir Singh, Ranjeet Chaudhary, Ashutosh Rao, Surendra Kumar Shukla and Vishal Agrahari. They were arrested at the CSIL plant in Pura Bazar, Maharajganj when they tried to manipulate weight of a rebar-laden trailer. Vishal, who was the mastermind, acquired the technique in Mumbai which involved installing chips within the load cell wires of weighbridges. “They manipulated weight of goods by using remote devices,” said deputy superintendent of police, STF, Dharmesh Shahi.
During interrogation, Vishal confessed to learning technique in Mumbai, in 2016. Ankit used to recruit drivers and transporters, while Surendra facilitated on-site adjustments with drivers. Ashutosh served as a security guard at weighbridge of CSIL plant in Maharajganj and Ranjeet was truck trailer driver, said the SP. “About six months back a chip was implanted in weighbridge’s load cell wire,” Shahi revealed. The STF suspected that at least 24 weighbridges in UP, Madhya Pradesh and Nepal were rigged with similar chips. An FIR was lodged with the Maharajganj police station under sections 420 (cheating), 408 (breach of trust by servant), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 379 (theft) of IPC and Section 26 of Legal Metrology Act, said Shahi. Efforts were on to nab other gang members.
