Patna: Senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi (SuMo) has been denied the party ticket for his second consecutive term in the Rajya Sabha, as the saffron party preferred to play the extremely backward classes (EBCs) card in Bihar ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Sushil Modi’s current term in the Rajya Sabha expires on April 2.
The BJP on Sunday announced the names of state BJP Mahila Morcha president Dharamshila Gupta and state vice-president & former minister Bhim Singh as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections. Both Gupta and Bhim belong to the numerically strong EBCs social group which accounts for 36% of the total population as per the recent caste survey.
Sushil Modi was elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha in December 2020 in a byelection following the death of the then Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Ram Vilas Paswan.
