LUCKNOW: Aimed at easing traffic congestion, the first phase of the Green Corridor project — between IIM Road and Hardinge Bridge (near Daliganj) — is nearing completion.
According to AK Senger, the project director, the first phase of the Green Corridor consists of two parts — a bridge connecting IIM Road and the concrete bridge over the Gomti River, and a six-km-long four-lane road between IIM Road and Hardinge Bridge.
The bridge is set to be completed on Feb 15, while the first layer of bitumen for the road is scheduled to be laid by Feb 19. The entire Phase-I, which costs Rs 150 crore, is expected to be completed within one and a half years.
The project aims to ease traffic congestion from Hardoi Bypass to Old City areas, benefiting residents of LDA’s Basant Kunj and Prabandh Nagar Yojana. Senger estimates that around one lakh people, including employees, businessmen, and residents, will benefit from the improved connectivity to Hazratganj, Kaiserbagh, Nishatganj, and Gomti Nagar.
The new bridge constructed under the Green Corridor is expected to eliminate the need to navigate congested areas like Dubagga, Balaganj intersection, Tahsinganj, and Ghantaghar near Hussainabad. Commuters traveling from Hazratganj, Kaiserbagh, and Khadra towards Basantkunj, Amrapali, Jehta, and Mall will also experience a quicker route. “The completion promises to reduce traffic congestion, improve connectivity, and save valuable time for commuters,” Senger added.
Regarding other phases, he mentioned that the entire Green Corridor project, estimated at Rs 7,500 crore, is planned in four phases. Phase-II will extend from Hardinge Bridge to Pipraghat, Phase-III from Pipraghat to Shaheed Path, and Phase-IV from Shaheed Path to Kisan Path.
Senger mentioned that preliminary detailed project reports (DPRs) for Phases II to IV have been framed.
