Kolkata: The minimum temperature is likely to climb to 20°C by Wednesday from Monday’s 17.1°C before the midweek shower knocks the mercury down again by a notch.
The minimum temperature jumped two notches overnight on Monday from Sunday’s 14.9°C. According to the Met office, the weekend was the last period with sub-15°C temperatures.
“There may be some trace rainfall on Wednesday night, continuing into the next day.The morning of Wednesday is likely to be cloudy. A cyclonic circulation moving towards eastern India is responsible for the moisture approaching the state by mid-week,” said RMC director GK Das.
While the minimum temperature may fall by a notch by the end of the week, the maximum temperature may rise to 29°C from the current 27.5°C. According to Das, the chance of the maximum crossing 30°C within the next week is low. On Tuesday, the skies are likely to remain relatively clear and sunny while the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be close to 28°C and 18°C, respectively.
