Noida: Plans to connect the Noida airport with various cities via road, railway and a Namo Bharat corridor are set to get a major boost over the next few months.
A 700m stretch linking the Yamuna Expressway with the airport and a 31km road connecting the speedway with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Ballabhgarh are expected to be ready in April.
The NCR Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is also planning to ready a DPR for a project to build a 72km rapid rail network between Ghaziabad station and the airport. The UP Roadways will prepare a report on running bus services to nearby areas once commercial flights start by the end of this year.
Connectivity to the airport was the prime agenda of a meeting between stakeholders that was held on Friday.
“Be it roads, trains or buses, a multimodal connectivity grid is being readied so that people from various cities do not face any inconvenience in reaching the airport in Jewar. On Friday, we discussed every possible mode of transport with representatives of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), NCRTC and UP Roadways. The current status of each connectivity project was discussed in detail,” said Arun Vir Singh, the CEO of Noida International Airport Ltd (NIAL), the govt agency to monitor the airport project.
The 700m airport link from the Yamuna Expressway is on the verge of completion, Singh said. Another 750m road, he added, will branch out of the speedway for VIPs to reach the airport. This road — for which land is being acquired — can also be used during emergencies.
Shailendra Bhatia, the NIAL nodal officer, said they were in talks with UP Roadways to run buses from the airport to Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and the western UP cities of Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Meerut, and Saharanpur. A depot is being planned in Sector 33, from where 80 buses are likely to operate in the initial stage.
NCRTC officials said at the meeting they were carrying out soil tests for a 72km corridor from Ghaziabad station to the Noida airport.
The DPR for the corridor, having 12 stations, is likely to be ready next month.
The Northern Central Railway will build a corridor to integrate the airport with the Delhi-Howrah and Delhi-Mumbai routes on either side.
At the meeting, officials said the nearest station from the airport was Chola.
According to a survey report, the distance from the airport to the station will be 16km if the tracks pass through the area marked as airport. But NIAL officials at the meeting asked the railway representatives to change the alignment so that the tracks skirted the airport area. With this, the distance to Chola will increase to 28km.
