Uncleared Garbage Raises Concerns in Ukkadam Colony, Coimbatore | Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: The residents of the Ukkadam housing colony in ward 86 on Sunday expressed concerns over uncleared garbage in their locality. The colony houses more than 500 families.
One of the residents of block 18 said garbage was not cleared for almost a week. “The bins are overflowing, posing health hazards. But we do not have any other option but to dump more waste into the bins.Half of the road is now filled with garbage. We have been living with a foul smell in the area for the past three days.”
Another resident of block 19 said their premises were so unhygienic that the elderly people and kids could contract various diseases. “The locality has become a breeding ground for flies and mosquitoes. The situation isn’t any different at the adjacent lanes.”
When contacted, Ahamed Kabir, councillor from ward 86, said the garbage collection vehicle couldn’t be operated for the past 15 days as it had developed some technical glitches. “We have taken up the issue with corporation officials and steps are being taken to replace the vehicle. For now, we will deploy pushcarts to clear piled up garbage. All the uncleared garbage will be cleared in a couple of days.”
