LUCKNOW: SP candidates Jaya Bachchan, Ramji Lal Suman, and Alok Ranjan filed their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections on Tuesday. They were accompanied by Akhilesh Yadav and Shivpal Yadav.
Jaya Bachchan, 75, known for her candid statements in Parliament and outside has been renominated by the party for her fifth consecutive term as SP MP in Rajya Sabha.She jointly owns assets worth Rs 1,578 crore with her actor-husband Amitabh Bachchan.
According to her affidavit, the Padma Shri awardee, who has been representing SP since 2004, has gathered property from endorsements, MP salary, professional fees, while Amitabh earns from interest, rent, dividends, capital gains and income from solar plant. While Jaya owns jewellery worth Rs 40.97 crore and one four-wheeler worth Rs 9.82 lakh, Amitabh owns jewellery worth Rs 54.77 crore and 16 vehicles worth Rs 17.66 crore, including two Mercedes and a Range Rover. The couple jointly owns movable property worth Rs 849.11 crore and immovable property worth Rs 729.77 crore. While Mulayam loyalist, Ramji Lal Suman73, a senior leader who was recently appointed as an SP national general secretary by Akhilesh Yadav, owns Rs 1.85 crore immovable assets and his income in 2022-23 was Rs 1.20 lakh only. He has jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh.
Former UP chief secretary Alok Ranjan, perhaps the first bureaucrat to be sent to the Upper House by SP, had annual income of Rs 89.24 lakh in 2021-22 and his total assets property jointly shared with his wife Surabhi Ranjan are around Rs 12.39 crore. Alok, an alumnus of St Stephen’s College, did his MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. The last date for nomination is Feb 15. Polling, if required, will be held on Feb 27 and results will be declared the same day.
