East Bengal Suffer Back-to-back Defeats | Kolkata News – Times of India

Kolkata: There was no change in East Bengal FC’s fortunes as they suffered back-to-back defeats in the ongoing ISL, going down to Mumbai City FC 0-1 at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Tuesday. The scoreline perhaps did not reflect the game correctly as the Mumbai outfit would rue not finding the back of the net more often after dominating the game.
Missing a number of players, including Brazilian striker Cleiton Silva, the red-and-gold brigade had to go in with three foreigners. They were a bit too defensive and sloppy on the field, failing to create any positive chances. Their Spanish coach Carles Cuadrat perhaps wanted to play safe and take home one point. But that was not to be as the Mumbai outfit bounced back from their defeat against Jamshedpur FC in the last match to return with maximum three points.
Petr Kratky’s team went ahead in the 24th minute when Spaniard Alberto Noguera chipped in from inside the halfway mark that Iker Guarrotxena did well to bring down and fire in from the centre of the box.
For East Bengal, Hijazi Maher and Victor Vazquez got decent chances to equalise in either halves, but could not finish off. The Kolkata side are at 10th spot with 12 points from 13 games while Mumbai FC rose to fourth position with 25 points from the same number of games.
