Prayagraj: Following protest on the Allahabad University campus for past over two weeks, vice chancellor Prof Sangita Srivastava constituted a five-member legal committee to look into the issue. The committee will submit its report in one month, during which period chief proctor Rakesh Singh will have to step down while head of the Physics department Prof K N Uttam will officiate as chief proctor.
The head of Botany department, Prof Sheo Mohan Prasad, will be chairman of the said committee. Other members, include head of Biochemistry department, Prof S I Rizvi, coordinator of LLB 5-year course, Prof Aadesh Kumar, Prof Chanda Devi of the department of Hindi and Prof Priyamvada Singh of the department of earth and planetary sciences. Assistant registar Sunil Kumar Yadav has been appointed convener of the committee that will look into issue of illegal inmates in hostels and also the case of alleged harassment of post-graduate student Abhishek Gupta on Jan 29, at the centre of the protest on the campus. tnn

Prof Amit Chauhan, associated with the RSS and the BJP, has been appointed as the dean of student welfare at Panjab University. The appointment was made by the vice-chancellor in anticipation of syndicate/senate approval.
